Corporal Robert Finlay
Interred in Hem Farm Military Cemetery, Hem-Monacu, Somme, France. Name inscribed on St Columb's Cathedral (Church of Ireland) Memorial to the men connected with that cathedral who died during the 1914-18 War. Name also commemorated on the Diamond War Memorial.
Third son of Mr and Mrs Robert Finlay, 17, Linenhall Street, Londonderry.
Robert Finlay - who was educated at Derry Cathedral Boys' School - served his time in the tailoring establishment of Messrs. Semple and Thompson, and emigrated to Australia four years before his death. On the first anniversary of his death the following tribute was paid to his memory by Arthur Postance, 22, Birkenhead Street, N. Fitzroy, Melbourne:
'A soldier and a hero, too,
He played his part through and through;
His name was good, his friendship sound,
Loved and respected by all around.'
